2021 UP North Leader’s Retreat

Witamy w Krakowie! / Welcome to Kraków!

Dear friends, our Up North local leaders

Greetings in Jesus’ name! His Grace and Peace and Strength to you!

Two years ago we met in Helsinki to plan the next season of our mission collective we affectionately call “Up North”. That meeting established many important steps to clarify why we are a collective and solidifying important objectives for the first season of our “official” Foursquare Europe region, the “Nordic-Baltic Foursquare Association of Churches”. That was pre-pandemic (can you even remember a time without masks and restrictions and isolation?) and it has been one of the most trying seasons in recent memory for all of us. It is time to gather again, to embrace, encourage and strengthen one another. And, to reset our hearts towards our collective mission and establish the next steps for a new season ahead. Hebrews 10:23-25 has been on our hearts for some time, as we recognized the “relational drift” and momentum stall we have experienced suffering under this pandemic.

“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

With this imperative in mind, the Elders have established an opportunity to do so, to embrace one another with BIG hugs in Krakow, Poland September 24-26. We are so convinced of the importance of this gathering that we are providing those in financial and/or childcare need some support for the expenses and on-site childcare. The childcare is very limited and for those who truly have no other options. We realized that in some cases only one leader in the family may be able to attend due to family requirements and this is understandable. PLEASE DO NOT LET FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS BE REASON TO STAY HOME. We hope to see each of you.

In advance, we thank you for giving this priority consideration amidst the many demands and commitments in your lives and ministries.

In His service!

You can fill this in before your flight to save you time. After you submit the form save the confirmation to show at the airport or onboard (when they try to give you the paper form). You can also fill it out on the flight in paper form.

  • in buses, trams and trains,
  • in shops, malls, banks, markets and post offices
  • in cinemas and theatres,
  • at physician’s offices, in outpatient clinics and hospitals, in massage and tattoo parlours
  • in churches, at schools and universities,

How to Get from the Airport to our Hotel:

Venue: Hotel Grand Sal in Wieliczka [Click for map]

  • The hotel is a seven-minute walk from a train station which has a direct connection to the airport.
  • For those that need assistance, we can pick you up from the train station near the hotel (contact details below).
  • The train is about a 50 min ride from the airport to the station located near the hotel and is 16zł (€4).
    • For those arriving earlier and staying in the city center:
      • The station you want a ticket for is “Kraków Głowny” (main station) and is about a 20 min ride from the airport station and is 12zł (€3). This is the best option for a fast service to the center, taxis will cost much more and take much longer (up to an hour depending on traffic).
      • From the “Kraków Głowny” station (main station) you can get a train to the hotel for the retreat. Ticket machines for “Koleje Małopolskie” will have the correct ticket (or buy online with the link below), your destination is “Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia” (Also called “Wieliczka Marketplace Salt Mine”).
  • Uber, Bolt, Freenow, and regular taxis all serve the airport. The drive to/from the airport is about 45 mins, and will cost between 70 and 120 zł (€18 to €30).

Tap a topic below for detailed information

How To Buy Train Tickets:

  • There are ticket machines in the terminal in arrivals or at the train platform or you can pre-purchase online here.
    • If you buy online or in person, all tickets are valid for 3 hours based on the desired “start time” (typically the departure time of your desired train), if your flight is delayed up to 3 hours, your ticket will still be valid.
    • When buying at the machine or online: Your starting station is “Kraków Airport (Lotnisko)”, your arrival station is “Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia” (Also called “Wieliczka Marketplace Salt Mine”).
  • You can search the train schedule (roughly every 30 mins) by following the link to purchase tickets above.

How To Take The Train From Kraków Airport to the hotel:

The train station is located directly next to the terminal behind the parking garage.

All trains leave from the airport to the hotel location (both are end stations) “SKA 1” direction “Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia” (Also called “Wieliczka Marketplace Salt Mine”) – there are no other trains, so you can’t get on the wrong one.

  1. From arrivals take the escalator (moving ramp) to the upper level.
  2. Turn left into the covered footbridge and walk to the end.
  3. At the end go through another pair of doors and down the escalator to the train platform.

  1. Walk off the platform towards the parking lot, bus station, and station building.
  2. Walk straight along the main walkway towards the main street.
  3. Turn right onto the main street (ul. Edwarda Demowskiego).
  4. Turn left onto the next street “ul. Daniłowicza”.
  5. After 140 meters turn right onto “park Kingi”.
  6. In 120 meters the hotel will be on your left at number 7 “Hotel Grand Sal”.

Getting around the city center and recommendations:

On Saturday evening or if you have extra time after our meetings, here are some tips for getting around the city center.

  • The center is very walkable, from the main station it is only about a 10 min walk to the main square and the center of the medieval city.
  • Trams and busses are frequent and a great way to get around, you can use Google Transit directions to get exact platforms and specific directions for any place in the city. Face masks must be worn while riding trams or busses.
  • Tickets can be purchased at most platforms with cards, and on most newer trams/busses cards can be used (contactless) or coins can be used on all trams/busses. Tickets are “time based” and expire based on the chosen time.
  • To get to the Jewish quarter you can walk about 20 mins or take a tram.
    • Tram 3 from outside the main station (Direction: Nowy Bieżanów P+R)
    • Tram 19 from under the main station in the underground tram tunnel (Direction: Borek Fałęcki)
    • Tram 24 from along Westerplatte or Basztowa streets, which is near the main square’s north or east side (Direction: Kurdwanów P+R) (tram stops: Teatr Bagatela, Stary Kleparz, Teatr Słowackiego, or Poczta Główna) tram 3 stops at some of these as well.
